Mother's Day Gift Ideas to Buy or Make

Mother's Day is coming and, although I'm not really looking forward to it, I thought I'd share some ideas for Mother's Day gifts. These gifts, like any other type of gifts, should be given with the recipient in mind. Sometimes people just give a gift for the sake of giving one without considering who they're giving the gift to. I'm a strong believer that it's the thought that counts, but sometimes I wonder just how much thought goes into the gift. For example, one time I received a box of chocolates as a gift. I remember a friend casually walking towards me and smiling. She softly said, "We BOTH know you're not going to eat that chocolate" and she put out her hand.

Your Dad vs My Dad

I always thought that when two people from different backgrounds got together, their backgrounds didn't matter. That it wouldn't really affect the relationship. In a way, I guess I feel that way...as long as they don't plan on having a family. If they do, then it's just a risk.

The Avatar Not 100% Safe For Work

I joined a forum recently. One for teachers or those that "want to talk like one". It is the "the premier teacher network for parents and teachers to work together". I joined trying to help them get a boost before launching the program to teachers because "no one wants to join a forum that doesn't have anyone". I also chose this forum because I enjoy teaching. I loved working as a tutor and I love teaching my son. We already homeschool so I honestly thought this forum and I would be a good fit for each other. I was so, so , so wrong.

When the Body Says Good-Bye

Some people say it's a "touchy" subject. I don't see it that way. It's a normal thing to do that certain people (in Spanish it's called people that want to "joder") have a problem with and instead of just walking away (or turning off the TV, or computer window, etc), they prefer to bring negativity to someone else' life. Look, I totally understand if you want to speak up to someone that is physically or emotionally hurting someone else. Or someone that is spreading hate through their comments. Totally get it. But when it's someone that is doing none of these. "Oh, but you see it that way because you're for it. If you were against it you were to see what's wrong." Well, I don't know if that's true, but I do not feeding your child no matter which way you want to do it is NEVER doing any harm physically or emotionally to anyone. On the other hand, berating or humiliating a breastfeeding mom who chooses to feed her child in public without a cover IS emotionally hurting someone. If you find yourself in a situation where you are facing a nursing mom and you "need" to say something about it, then sorry to let you know, but you're being an ass...and an ignorant one at that.

25 Ways to Grow a Smile (Pay It Forward)

We were waiting in line at the grocery store once. A woman behind us asked me if I could watch her cart while she ran and got something she forgot. I said sure. Some moments later the person paying finished and the whole line moved forward. As BD started putting out groceries on the conveyor belt I grabbed the cart behind me and moved it forward with us. He asked why I had done that if the woman wasn’t back yet and we didn't know if she was coming soon or not. I told him I was simply being nice. Then I laughed and said, ‘Look I can't afford to pay someone else's restaurant check our groceries, so if I can help by pulling their cart along with me so she doesn't lose her place in line I will. IF when we're done she's not back, well then nothing I can do then.’
