In case you don't know,
NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month which takes place in November of
every year. The idea is that you write
every day for a word count goal of 50000 in a month. I had heard about it before and thought it'd
be something fun to do, but with work, and public transportation, and other
stuff there was just no time. Last year,
I thought "Hey! I won't be working in November so I can do it this
year!" Of course, I was pregnant
and didn't think how time-consuming a newborn baby was. (My king is an October baby).
Well, NaNoWriMo also has
these "camps". It's basically
the same thing except you can set different word count goals. There are two camps each year, one in April
and one in July. I signed up on the site
hoping to do April's camp, but...that didn't happen. So, I became absolutely determined to do it
in July.
As of mid-June I thought,
yeah I'm going to do this. I've had an
idea floating around in my head for years and thought it'd be great to just get
it out. I just usually go with the flow
when I write anything, but because it IS a deadline sort of thing I thought
it'd be best to organize myself in case I hit any blocks. I’m happy I did. When I was getting my characters ready, it
took me forever to name them and some aren't even named yet. I had to leave them like that and I just
refer to them as neighbor and mayor. I know what's going to happen in some scenes,
but the truth is I don't even know the large-scale problem or how it's going to
end.
So, did I write
yesterday? Nope. I really DID mean to take some time during
the evening, but I hurt my back last week, hurt it again Saturday, Sunday we
went on Family Day to Old San Juan, so yesterday I just wanted to rest. I also wanted to prepare a camp calendar and
I just got so involved with that, that I completely missed the writing
part. But, when you have a baby on your
lap it's easier to play with Photoshop than it is to write anyways. Fingers crossed that I can get some writing
in today.
